Sigh… Erin and Tony’s wedding day… I can’t think about this day without swooning over it’s classically timeless details, love-filled smiles, warmth and happiness, amazing weather, and incredible people… I absolutely loved this day! Not only was it Erin’s birthday, but it was also my birthday! So I was excited to spend it doing what I love and celebrating with such a radiantly sweet bride and her groom, their families, and all of their friends…
Tyler and I had the privilege of waking up in the sweet little town of Cape May, New Jersey the morning of the wedding. I woke up super early and took a nice birthday walk, enjoying the crisp November air and the smell of the sea just blocks away. After stopping for an almond milk latte and a walk along the beach, I texted Tyler to meet me at the corner for breakfast at a cute little diner called George’s Place. Tyler had the smoked salmon bagel, and I had a couple of eggs over medium with a side of whole grain toast and yes, more coffee. He brought a couple gifts with him for me to open and the sweetest birthday card… It was so nice to spend the morning together and fuel up for the big day!
Historic hotel Congress Hall is such a beautiful place… It was built with wood Thomas Hughes in 1816 as a seaside resort for guests who came to visit Cape May. The locals thought it was too big to have any sort of success, referring to the building as “Tommy’s Folly”. In 1878, it burned down in a fire but within the next year, it was rebuilt with brick. Ulysses S. Grant, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, and other famous faces have all vacationed here, naming Congress Hall the “Summer White House”. You can feel the history of this place upon seeing it, and much more when you experience the inside.
Tony had been ready and waiting in his tux since 10:00 that morning which I thought was completely adorable… He couldn’t wait to see his bride! While she and her girls were finishing getting ready, Tony snuck down the hall to show some love to his bride but of course, without seeing her!
Erin’s gown was a dream… So classic, elegant, and beautifully tasteful. Her bouquet as well as the bridesmaids had rosemary tucked in among the hydrangeas and roses and smelled so wonderful!
After her sister, mom, grandmother, and bridesmaids helped her get ready, her father James entered the room to see his daughter…
Love this shot of Erin with her mom, Patti!
After my time spent with the girls, I met Tony and his groomsmen out front while they waited for the trolley to pick them up and take them to the church nearby. It was ceremony time!
The church was right in the heart of Cape May. Many onlookers waited to Erin to arrive and then later stood outside while the couple was introduced as Mr. and Mrs. while guests waved striped-ribbon streamers!
Erin and her father arrived from Congress Hall in a vintage Cadillac… How stunning is she??
I love how proud James is as he walks his little girl down the aisle…
These two and their smiles!!
The ribbons were so fun!
Erin and Tony planned about an hour in between the ceremony and the start of Cocktail Hour for guests to go back to their rooms and freshen up, so we had plenty of time for portraits around Congress Hall – inside and out!
Cocktail Hour… one of my favorite parts of a wedding day – and I love when I have the opportunity to photograph it! The food, the chatter, the clinking of glasses… So much celebration! The lawn behind Congress Hall overlooking the water was the perfect place for their guests to enjoy a drink and some delicious bites to eat before the reception began.
Tyler’s always making friends whenever we go to weddings… Love this cute shot of him with James and Patti!
The reception space was simple and timeless… Love how fun that checkered floor is!
Rarely the couple gets to eat on their wedding day! They’re too busy mingling and enjoying themselves… Luckily the staff saved some of every hors d’oeuvre for Erin and Tony to enjoy at their sweetheart table… Beautiful plate of bites!
After announcing the bridal party in all at once, Erin and Tony entered the ballroom, and “L-O-V-E” by Frank Sinatra began to play – absolutely perfect intro!
Everyone began to dance for a while… Even Nana!
Their night ended with a balloon send-off… Such a fun thing to do together! Everyone came out onto the lawn before ending the reception and heading to the basement bar to continue the celebration. It was quite the evening – one we will never forget!
Thank you both so much for being so incredibly gracious, fun, and just so wonderful to photograph for! We wish you nothing but the absolute best – CHEERS!!
